NN’s societal involvement/impact: investing in a healthier society

It is through our efforts focused on society that we seek to strengthen the financial resilience of Belgians, along with their physical and mental health and wellbeing, as we work to achieve an inclusive society. This is also why we also pay close attention to vulnerable target groups.

We are part of NN Group, which itself is highly unequivocal in its commitment to society. As an example of this, NN Group devotes 1% of its pre-tax operating profit to social initiatives. And the purpose of this commitment is to support and nurture the wellbeing of a million people. As one of NN Group’s 10 international business units, NN Belgium makes an active contribution to this aim.

Facts and figures for Belgium

  • € 500,000 in donations

  • 2,380 hours of voluntary work carried out by NN staff members

Positive impact in practical terms: working arrangements with local partners

We work closely with local organisations so that:

  • as NN employees, we can roll up our sleeves on a voluntary basis to help support the wellbeing of those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
  • we can finance organisations that are invested in the wellbeing of people who find themselves in difficult circumstances.
  • we can support research into wellbeing and happiness – and so that we can bring our aid to non-commercial initiatives that focus on wellbeing and that promote preventative support.

Voluntary work: NN’s colleagues out and about in the field

At NN, we encourage our colleagues to make an active contribution that boosts the positive impact we can have on society. Each year, we allow them to carry out up to two days of voluntary work during their working hours. As part of our voluntary activities, we work with the Give a Day network, a citizens’ movement that helps people to get involved in a way that is of value to others. The Give a Day platform enables volunteers to become involved with social projects and needs. And by doing so, we can ensure that the efforts we make are delivered exactly where they are needed most.

    Our donations

In 2024, we donated €500,000 to organisations that protect and support the wellbeing of vulnerable people. To ensure that we contribute to the right organisations, we work with the King Baudouin Foundation via the NN Fund. As part of this work, we focus on initiatives that are linked to our role as an insurance company, and which provide support to a range of target groups:

    • The elderly
    • People with mental or physical disabilities
    • People who have lost someone dear to them

Together, we work to combat loneliness while helping to achieve an inclusive society in which the wellbeing of each one of us is assured.

    Surveys and other initiatives

    Happiness survey

In 2017, in collaboration with Ghent University, NN established the “Prospects for a long and happy life” chair. Through NN’s and Ghent University “National Happiness Survey”, we are exploring what makes Belgians happy and how we can keep them that way. We share tips, tools, and ideas.

    Non-commercial initiatives on wellbeing

Since 2023, we have been supporting WorkBeats, which brings together professionals from the wellness sector to approach workplace well-being in an innovative way. During the WorkBeats Wellbeing Festival, speakers share their vision of a healthy, positive, inclusive, and inspiring workplace to elevate workplace well-being to a higher level.
