RGPD Legislation

  • Why do I need to follow a whole procedure if I want to see or change my details?

NN considers the protection of your private life as very important. To prevent someone other than yourself from gaining access to your personal details, we pay close attention to the identification of the applicant. Therefore, you must absolutely include a copy of your identity card.

  • NN stores my personal details "only for as long as is legally necessary". How long exactly?

It is impossible to assign one general time frame to this.
We store your personal details at least as long as your contract is valid and, at a maximum, as long as the legislator requires us to. The statutory storage terms may vary from the end of the contract to more than 30 years after the contract has ended.

  • I do not want NN to share my data with an external party. How can I prevent this?

You cannot prevent NN from sharing certain data with third parties.
Sharing data is necessary or possible in the following cases:

    1. When required for the creation or execution of an agreement.
    2. With legitimate interest, for example, the protection of the safety of your data.
    3. With legal obligations, for example, the sharing of assets with the tax authority.
    4. When you have expressly given your consent in the past to share certain data with third parties.

    Specifically for health data
Consent you gave in the past for the processing of health data, continues to apply. We will again ask for your explicit consent when we increase risk covers or when taking out a new insurance policy. A request to revoke the consent can be submitted to the DPO via a signed and dated request accompanied by a copy of the identity card (front and back). Revoking a consent can result in the discontinuation of the processing of your health data, which may have consequences for the concluded contract.

  • You wrote in your letter that you manage my contract "possibly for the benefit of a third party". Who is that 'third party'?

That 'third party' refers to the beneficiary person/persons of organisation(s) stated in the beneficiary clause of the insurance contract.

  • Is the Data Protection Office (DPO) employed by NN? How can I be sure they will really protect my interests?

In order to guarantee independence, the DPO is part of a Compliance team of NN Insurance Belgium. Compliance is an independent and autonomous section, focused on the compliance to the regulations in relation to the integrity of the activities of the company. The DPO is not accountable to the management of NN. Their duty is to guard over the protection of the private life of the NN customers.

  • What kind of data does NN store about me and what does NN do with this data?

The data we normally store includes: your name, your date of birth, your address, other contact information, information about the product or the products that you have with Delta Lloyd / NN, payment information, and marketing information. Whether you consented to the use of your e-mail address for newsletters and/or special offers falls under marketing information.

Personal details may be used for, among others, making relevant suggestions to you on the basis of the information we have about you. In the year that your child turns 18, for example, we may point out to you that as of this age, the child will no longer be automatically covered with some insurance companies.
